My First Podcast

Posted on September 25, 2010

A couple of days ago the talented Sho Ito and I launched the first episode of the Wired for Light podcast.  WFL is a show for folks breaking into the creative industry and trying to survive in it.

The idea behind the show is to have a forum to discuss questions, experiences and our lessons learned as creatives. We laugh a lot and have a great time too. One thing that inspired me to produce the podcast was the number of students I meet from programs such as advertising and journalism who don’t really know what they want to do when they graduate. Their default answer is “I want to do something creative.”  We hope the podcast will provide an interesting perspective for those transitioning into creative careers, either after graduating or coming from another industry.

This project has been excilarating from the begining because, in a way, we are creating a product and are taking care of all aspects of its development: recording and editing the podcast, making the WordPress theme for the site, getting a domain name, managing the twitter account and email, figuring out hosting, coming up with a logo, iTunes issues, different feeds, and a dozen other details required to release the show.  However tiresome that may sound, I really enjoyed this process of creating and marketing a new project (and product) and see it as a great learning experience.

If you haven’t, please take a minute (or 30) to listen to the show and tell us what you think.  You can find our first episode here.
